What Are Autoresponder Email Programs?

Autoresponder email programs are a tool that can help you do just that.

The truth is, no matter how good your website is, not everyone that visits it is going to buy from you the first time they arrive there. People in greater and greater numbers are going to the Internet to get information about products and services before they buy. Chances are, while they may like what you have to say, they also want to see what your competitors have to say as well before they part with their money. The challenge is to be in front of them when they are ready to buy.

This is where autoresponder email programs can help.

 

Autoresponder email programs  or “Autoresponders” provide
3 main functions:

1. Capture information of potential customers
2. Follow up with those potential customers regularly
3. Help you track your follow up with your potential customers.

 

Capture Information
In order to get someone who visits your site to ‘put up their hand’ to you and say they might be interested in hearing more of what you have to say, most autoresponder email programs provide you with what they refer to as “Sign Up Forms” or “Opt-in Forms”. What these are is usually some sort of offer on a prominent part of your website, given in exchange for your contact information. These offers can vary from adding you to their email newsletter list to other ‘free goodies’ like receiving a free ebook or video. The idea is to offer something of value in exchange for the visitors contact information. If a potential customer gives you their contact information, they are essentially telling you that you have their permission to send them more information. That is why they are referred to as “opt-in” forms.

Note: You should be very upfront about the fact that you will be sending them further information. No one wants to receive unwanted email and doing so defeats the purpose of increasing customers and sale.

 

Follow Up
If you only had 5 or 6 customers, you could follow up by email with all of them personally. But what if you have 50, 100, a thousand, or more? Once you have the potential customers contact information, the autoresponder email program helps you send follow up emails to all of those potential customers on your email list. The idea here is to stay in front of your potential customers by regularly following up with them via email. This process is often referred to as email marketing.  In these emails to your potential customers you have the opportunity to teach them about your product(s) or service(s) and build trust with them so that you are the one they think of when it comes time to buy.

 

Track Your Follow Up
The autoresponder email program then helps you keep track of various statistics related to your follow up emails. Things such as who opened or didn’t open your email, who made a purchase or didn’t make a purchase, what part of the city or country opened more or less of the emails, etc.. This information, often referred to as ’email analytics’  provides you with valuable information that can help you make your follow ups more effective.

For example, lets suppose that you sent 1,000 emails out and of those 1,000 emails, you sold 20 units of a particular product from your website. You might decide to separate those 20 customers into a separate category and not keep sending those 20 customers information on that same product. You may want to market a different product to them instead to see if you might be able to get some cross sell or repeat business. The point is, with the ability to track various components of your email follow ups, you can modify or ‘segment’ your list, so that your email marketing is more effective. Autoresponders can help you with that.

 

As you can see, by following up with potential customers and staying ‘front of mind’ and building a relationship with them, you stand a better chance of increasing the amount of customers you have and the number of sales you make.
